Porsche Museum Stuttgart

The task of re-designing the lighting for the expansive 5600 square meters of exhibition space at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen proved to be quite a challenge. The easy part was to find a solution to replace the outdated Source 4 HIT and the old compact fluorescent downlights with a modern, efficient, LED system with better color rendering and most importantly – dimmable.

But Porsche had an additional crucial requirement. They needed a solution that could adapt to the frequently changing exhibits and the changes in the focus of the lighting system that this invoked. Previously, re-lighting had been a cumbersome process that could only be done at night, often resulting in poor illumination of the exhibits. Furthermore, reaching most of the fixtures required significant effort and the use of a special cherry picker.

Considering the limitations of regular moving lights in terms of size, appearance, weight, and cost, we came up with an innovative approach. We designed an architectural moving light fixture that could be controlled through a specially developed App running on GrandMA 3. In early 2021, we successfully installed a total of 560 of these fixtures, along with approximately 400 non-moving architectural fixtures.

Despite its compact size, our architectural moving light fixture boasts impressive features. With a lumen output of 6000lm, a color rendering index (CRI) above 95+, and TM30 values of 90/95, it ensures exceptional lighting quality. Additionally, it offers 16-bit Pan/Tilt/Dimming control and a motorized zoom, providing all the functionality of a regular moving head but in a much smaller form factor.
